mindless crowd?

"ok, so another question: do you know web 2.0?" well, agents are obviously ignorant, they just match abbreviations on the employer's side with the ones on the employee's but what about you? "sorry about the tag clouds".. yeah that makes sense. "we definitely need rss, twitter and what's the name.. er.. tag clouds on our web site. why? well.. it's.. just.. it's kewl.. ya". "today, communication and social networking is an important part of our life because.." i know a couple, they sit besides each other but they won't talk because it's not kewl (i hope this IS the reason).. they will "communicate through a computer network". we are all having fun, aren't we? few of us - money. endlessly surfing through other people's recorded lifes and experiences. this definitely useful but endlessly? this vision of a mindless crowd following technology-for-the-sake-of-kewlness like a blind animal and devouring everything which drops from the shining "web 2.0" cloud above them. one of the creepiest things is people following my EMPTY twitter account.. no, i'm not saying something's wrong here, evolution and all the works. "awesome applications"? i don't think so. yes, the crowd pays for it and gets what it wants as it's always been. it's just this unsettling feeling and a couple of words circling in my mind.. i'm not sure yet but i'll figure it out..
